Steven Reineke Extends Contract Through 2030; Title Now Reflects Role as Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor

Washington, DC — Recognized for its leadership in innovative and enticing concerts, the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) today announces unclassifiable, multi-genre music for the 2025–2026 season where iconic music scores meet symphonic fire. Under the baton of Steven Reineke, the season spans a vibrant mix of rock, gospel, film scores, and light classical music. This lineup comes in conjunction with the announcement of Reineke’s position as Principal Conductor And Artistic Advisor, set to continue with the NSO for another five years.

“We are thrilled to share that we have extended Steven’s contract with the NSO through 2030. This extension reflects our deep appreciation for his extraordinary artistic leadership and the impact he continues to have on our organization. In recognition of his vision, commitment, and creative excellence, we are pleased to elevate his title to Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor," said Jean Davidson, Executive Director. “Steven now joins Music Director Gianandrea Noseda—whose contract has been extended through 2031—in shaping an exciting artistic future for our orchestra. Together, their leadership ensures a dynamic and inspiring era ahead for our musicians and audiences alike.”

“This season, the NSO and I are thrilled to present a genre-defying selection of programs,” said Steven Reineke, Principal Pops Conductor for the National Symphony Orchestra.  “From tributes to legends like The Bee Gees and John Williams, and several favorite films in Concert, to a handpicked evening of classics in my own Steven’s Classical Mixtape and Troupe Vertigo’s aerial artists, acrobats, and contortionists—as always, we will have something for everyone!”

Audiences can expect high-energy tributes to legends like The Bee Gees, John Williams, and Radiohead; festive favorites including Home Alone in Concert and the beloved holiday tradition A Holiday Pops!; as well as cinematic adventures and a handpicked evening of popular classics—all performed live on the Concert Hall stage conducted by Steve Reineke and other special guests. Steven Reineke’s boundless enthusiasm and exceptional artistry are apparent throughout shows he has created with the NSO for many notable performers over the years.

This specialty programming will excite audiences and introduce patrons to the delightful combination of a classical symphony with modern-day programs. The variety of concerts spans far and wide, with options the whole family can enjoy.
